If you are just taking that enormous deep breath and considering a divorce, or in the middle of that shock zone that follows the split, the first thing (other than getting a really good haircut and a couple of new pairs of shoes) is to do some real world checking about the legal issues relative to your state.

 

The better informed you are before contacting an attorney, or even while you are engaged, the better. Remember every time you even CALL them to ask a question, the $$$ machine tips into action. Don’t be surprised when you get a $75 bill just for asking a simple question.

I’m not a lawyer, I’m a mom and I have many friends that have gone through horrible divorces that have left them nothing. Woman need to know the truth.

The best lawyers are the best liars!  Beware - they may be good; they may be your lawyer; but that doesn’t mean you can always trust them to do what’s right for you!

Too often, lawyers are only looking out for themselves, not you. Even women that won their divorce often paid way too much for their attorney fees. What’s the sense of winning your divorce if you have to pay it all to your lawyer in the end? The trick is to keep everything you win in your divorce settlement.
